Rally Of The Midlands - Friday 22nd, Saturday 23rd & Sunday 24th June 2007 Supradip Del Roy / Max Hall Podium success for S D Roy on Rally of the Midlands Indian driver S D Roy claimed his first podium as he finished third in round three of the British Rally Championship (BRC) Stars 1400 Championship, the Rally of the Midlands, this weekend (22-24 June). Roy and co-driver Max Hall safely brought home their 1400cc MG ZR to claim 16 points on the series leaderboard as they also ended-up second in the FIA class and 31st overall on the three-day tarmac event. The Milton Keynes driver had a relatively smooth run across the 100 miles of competitive stage action on the Nuneaton-based rally. On Saturday morning the crew nudged an Armco barrier on the Mallory Park test but only picked-up superficial damage to the front panels of the car, which did not affect their performance other than losing them some time. A problem with the limited slip differential hampered them somewhat throughout the rest of the event from Saturday afternoon but Roy’s main aim was to complete the rally and collect the championship points on a rain-soaked final day on Sunday after seeing several of his series rivals drop out. “On Sunday I did not want to take any chances in the rain,” the 33-year-old Calcutta-born driver said. “Four cars had already retired and I knew I could get some good points in the championship if I got round, so I did not want to risk anything on the slippery surface and I took it a little cautious. “It made me go a little slower but I’m happy to get the finish and the points. I’m also really pleased to get my first podium finish ever on a rally. “I enjoyed the event and we had a good run except for the incident with the barrier and the problem with the diff but we got round which is what matters and the stages were good fun.” Roy will next be in action across the tarmac of the Isle of Man-based Manx Stars Rally. The event is a double-header as it forms rounds four and five of the British Rally Championship (BRC) Stars 1400 Championship on Friday 20 and Saturday 21 July.
